剑桥大学天文学

　　剑桥大学天文艺术”(Astronomical Arts)是二十世纪下半叶开始兴起的一种新兴艺术，它将天文与艺术融合为一体，兼具了科学性与艺术性，除了艺术审美功能以外，还可以起到传播科学理念、以及沟通科学与艺术的作用。剑桥大学天文学院是世界上最著名的天文研究机构之一，创始人便是亚瑟-爱丁顿(Arthur Eddington)，他通过天文观测实验证明了爱因斯坦的相对论，从而举世闻名。

　　剑桥大学天文学硕士专业教学方法

　　这个课程完全是以研究为基础的，没有任何教学内容。每个学生分别被任命一名主管，研究课题由学位委员会批准。这个论文通常是经过十个月的研究才提交的。

　　一对一的监督

　　主管和学生之间达成个人监督的模式，并根据需要进行额外的培训。学生每周和他们的主管见面是很正常的，而且每个月的最低频率应该不少于两次。

　　在课程结束时，学生将拥有：

　　·对技术有全面理解，对文献了解透彻，适用于自己的研究。

　　·在应用知识方面表现出独创性，并且对如何利用研究和探究来创造和解释本领域的知识有实际的操作。

　　·在对当前的研究和研究技术与方法进行批判性评估时显示出自己的能力。

　　·在处理和解决问题上表现出一定的自主性和独创性，并在研究的规划和实施中自主行事。

　　Entry requirements

　　Typical A level offer A*AA

　　Essential: at least two science / mathematics A levels, the combination

　　depending on the option preferred.

　　Highly desirable: third science / mathematics subject to at least AS.

　　M.Phil. Degree

　　The Institute of Astronomy does not routinely offer the 1-year M.Phil. degree. However, occasionally, it is possible for students with certain 1-year scholarships, notably Churchill and Marshal Scholars, to pursue a 1-year M.Phil. in Astronomy. The degree is exclusively by research and a project and supervisor will have been identified during the application process.
